On the 28th February – exactly 14 years on from the day Rights of Nature were incorporated within the Ecuadorian constitution – we celebrated by showing a short film we made with our partners ‘Voces del Bosque’. It highlighted the interest in this growing movement that recognises that a core challenge is duality – the separation of nature from humans. This is best summarised by Rosa Canelos from the Quichua culture who says, ‘we are not defending Nature, we are Nature defending itself’.
The viewing and workshop at the University of Sussex, hosted by the Sussex Sustainability Research Programme, included interviews with the filmmakers and a live Q&A session.
